SUBJECT: Slaughterhouses Approval Procedure for the Authorized of Bovine meat  Imports

  • In accordance with Articles 40, 41 and 44 of the Regulation Establishing Special Rules for the Official Controls of Foods of Animal Origin, published in the Official Gazette on 17 December 2011 (numbered 28145), the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry may permit the import of food of animal origin, provided it is obtained from authorised countries and establishments.

 

The approval process for countries and establishments to import cattle meat essentially consists of the following stages:   

  • The official application is submitted by the competent authorities of the exporting country in the form of an official letter. Our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry then evaluates the application. If the application is deemed appropriate, a questionnaire is sent to the country in question to request information on animal and public health, veterinary services, laboratories, and slaughterhouse infrastructure.
  • An expert audit team from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is assigned to conduct on-site audit in countries whose response to the questionnaire is deemed appropriate.
  • Establishments(slaughterhouses/cutting plants) deemed appropriate by the audit team are included by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in the list of countries and establishments authorised for importing bovine meat. This list is published on the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's official website.

  • Purchases are carried out exclusively from producers or producer associations established abroad, in accordance with the Regulation No. 24 of our Institution. No intermediary companies are involved in this process.

  • Producers or producer associations from which imports will be made must hold a Producer Certificate issued by the competent authorities of the country of origin.
